Technical Description
Product Overview
Wet Strength Agents (WSAs) are a class of cationic, water-soluble polymers specifically designed to impart temporary or permanent resistance to rupture, disintegration, and bursting when paper and paperboard products are saturated with water. They are essential functional additives in the papermaking industry, enabling the production of grades that must maintain a significant portion of their dry strength under wet conditions.
Primary Functions & Applications
The core function is to significantly increase the wet tensile strength, wet burst strength, and, to a lesser extent, wet stiffness of paper products.
Typical Applications Include:
Towel & Tissue: Paper towels, facial tissue, napkins (to maintain integrity during use).
Packaging: Liquid packaging board (milk/juice cartons), linerboard for wet conditions, grease-resistant papers, carrier board for beverages.
Specialty Papers: Filter papers (tea bags, coffee filters), map paper, poster paper, label papers, abradable substrates, photographic base paper.
Sanitary Products: Certain layers in disposable hygiene products.
Paper Bags & Sacks: For cement, food, or other products requiring moisture resistance.
