Dietilenglicol (DEG) Nº CAS 111-46-6

Diethylene Glycol, abbreviated as DEG, is a colorless, odorless, viscous hygroscopic liquid belonging to the glycol ether family. Its chemical formula is C4H10O3 (structural formula: HOCH2CH2OCH2CH2OH) and CAS number is 111-46-6. As a derivative of ethylene glycol, DEG has excellent solubility, thermal stability, and reactivity, making it a versatile raw material in the chemical, textile, and pharmaceutical industries.

Key Applications

Polyester Resin Synthesis: DEG serves as a comonomer in the production of unsaturated polyester resins and saturated polyester resins. It improves the flexibility, low-temperature resistance, and chemical resistance of the resins, which are widely used in coatings, fiberglass-reinforced plastics (FRP), and adhesives.

Solvent & Extraction Agent: Used as a high-boiling solvent for dyes, inks, resins, and oils. It is an effective extraction agent for aromatic hydrocarbons, and is applied in the purification of lubricating oils and the separation of butadiene from C4 hydrocarbon mixtures.

Textile & Leather Industry: Acts as a humectant, softener, and dyeing auxiliary for textiles, preventing fiber brittleness and improving dye penetration. In leather processing, it enhances the flexibility and water resistance of finished leather products.

Intermedio químico: A precursor for synthesizing diethylene glycol ethers (e.g., DEG monomethyl ether, DEG monoethyl ether), which are widely used as solvents in coatings and cleaning agents. It also serves as a raw material for plasticizers, polyurethanes, and glycol esters.

Other Uses: Added to brake fluids, antifreeze solutions, and hydraulic fluids to improve thermal stability and viscosity retention at low temperatures. It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent for certain drugs and a humectant in cosmetic formulations.
