Water-Resistant Agents, also known as Water Repellents, are a specialized class of chemical additives used in papermaking to impart resistance to the penetration and absorption of liquid water (and often other liquids like oils and greases) into the paper sheet. Unlike Wet Strength Agents (which maintain the mechanical strength of paper when wet), water repellents focus on creating a hydrophobic or oleophobic surface/barrier. They are crucial for producing packaging and specialty papers that must protect contents from moisture or contain liquids.

2. Primary Applications

Used in grades where resisting liquid penetration is critical:
Packaging: Liquid packaging board (milk, juice cartons), food service boards (cups, plates), corrugated boxes for humid environments, frozen food packaging.
Specialty Papers: Release papers, label papers (for wet conditions), poster paper, waterproof abrasives backing, photographic paper.
Food Wrap & Barrier Papers: Greaseproof and glassine papers.
Paperboard: To improve water resistance for various end uses.
